Kybella

Aesthetic South is a concierge aesthetic medicine practice with Dr. Megan Bertke delivering Kybella in Northern Kentucky in the comfort and privacy of your own home.

What is Kybella?

Kybella is an injectable medication that breaks down fat cells so that they can no longer store or accumulate fat. This FDA approved medication is typically injected under the chin to improve the chin profile and eliminate the “double chin”. Some people are more prone to having a double chin due to genetics and others may begin to notice it with age or weight gain. Kybella offers a permanent, non-surgical solution to eliminating this problem.

How many Kybella treatments will I need?

Every patient is different. Patients require 1 to 6 treatments with most patients requiring between 2 to 4 treatments for optimal results. Each treatment is spaced at least 4 weeks apart.

Is there any downtime after Kybella?

Most patients experience swelling and tenderness at the injection site for the first 48 hours after treatment. It is usually the most severe after your first treatment. Although you can return to your regular activities immediately after treatment we recommend that you keep this in mind when you schedule your procedure.

Are there any side effects?

Common potential side effects include swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness and areas of hardness in the treatment area Kybella injections can also cause tingling, nodules, itching, skin tightness and headache.  These side effects typically resolve themselves without treatment and do not usually result in patients stopping treatment. Less common potential side effects include:  nerve injury – Kybella injections could cause nerve injury in the area of the jaw resulting in an uneven smile or facial muscle weakness.  In the clinical trials these all resolved without treatment in an average of 6 weeks and do not usually result in patients stopping treatment.  Kybella injections can temporarily cause trouble with swallowing (this is thought to be due to neck swelling), superficial skin erosions and small patches of hair loss in the beard area.  There is a possibility of an unsatisfactory result.  The procedure may also result in more noticeable platysma bands, visible deformities, or asymmetry in the treatment area.

Who performs my procedure?
