Neuromodulators
Because the best wrinkle is the one you never get!
What is a Neuromodulator?
Neuromodulator injections such as Botox, Jeuveau, Xeomin, and Dysport, can be used strategically to relax the facial muscles and stop the repeated muscle contractions that lead to wrinkles. Years of smiling, squinting, raising your eyebrows, grimacing or frowning will lead to etched in facial lines that make us look older. These injections are used preventatively to slow down that progression and maintain younger looking features and also to smooth existing wrinkles.

The most common areas that clients seek treatment for are the forehead lines, 11s (between the eyes), and crows feet; but there are many other uses as well that we can talk about in consultation. Using only FDA-approved toxins, I can safely and effectively target those pesky lines giving you a more youthful appearance.
When should I start getting botox?
It is different for everyone and is not based on your age. Think of it as wrinkle prevention. When a certain facial movement causes a wrinkle, then you know it is time to start treating that area. For many people that begins sometime in their 30’s, but for others it may be as early as their 20’s. If you have deep etched in lines, this treatment can also soften those lines over time.
Does botox hurt?
Some people liken it to a pinching sensation. You may have some discomfort, but pain is typically minimal and the overall treatment time is only a few minutes. Most patients tolerate the procedure very well with little discomfort, but topical numbing cream can be used as needed.
Is there any downtime after botox?
Immediately after the procedure you may notice small red bumps at the injection sites. These typically resolve in 15-30 minutes. For best results, avoid touching the area for 4-6 hours after your procedure. Do not massage, rub, or apply pressure to the treated area in that timeframe. It is also advised that you avoid any strenuous exercise the day of your injections, but you can otherwise resume your normal activities.
Are there any side effects to botox?
These are safe and effective treatments used by millions of people worldwide. Side effects can occur, but they are rare. Headache after treatment, especially if it is your first time receiving a treatment or you are prone to headaches, have been reported. You may experience occasional tingling sensations at the site of injection. Bruising and some discomfort at the injection site may also occur, but not always. If you have a tendency to bruise easily please discuss this with your injector beforehand as there are some preventative measures that can be taken to reduce the likelihood of bruising.

Other complications that could occur, but are much less likely, include: infection, allergic reaction, temporary drop of the eyelid (this usually lasts 2-3 weeks) or asymmetric smile depending on area of injection. These complications are extremely rare, but you can rest assured that your safety and satisfaction is my primary concern. As a certified injector I have been trained on how to minimize these risks. I am happy to answer any questions and discuss any concerns that you might have during consultation or prior to injection so that you feel comfortable and confident in the treatment you receive.
How long before I see results after botox?
It takes 48-72 hours before you will start to notice results and up to 2 weeks to get the full effect. That is why I typically schedule your follow up appointment 2 weeks after your treatment. At that time, if any touch-ups are needed we can do them. The effects typically last about 3 months for most people depending on injection site.
What do you mean by a touch up?
Your individualized neurotoxin injection plan and anticipated results will be discussed with you prior to procedure. Occasionally, there can be slight asymmetry or residual movement that needs to be addressed with a "touch up" at the 2 week mark. Although it may seem counterintuitive, an additional neurotoxin injection is often the answer to give you the perfect results. If you have concerns that you would like to discuss prior to the 2 week mark, I encourage you to call and speak with me at any point.
Who performs my procedure?
I myself, Dr. Megan Bertke, perform all procedures, consultations, and follow up appointments.
What should I expect at my appointment?
I always get a brief medical history to ensure there are no contraindications to treatment. I will answer any questions you have and take photos before the procedure for documentation and comparison purposes that will be kept confidential unless you give your expressed consent to use them for any promotional purposes. Once initial photos are taken, I will set up for and perform your injections. This usually takes about 10 minutes. After your treatment I retake photos and go over post-treatment recommendations. The entire visit usually takes 30-45 minutes for new patients and 15-25 minutes for returning patients. The majority of the time is spent discussing your goals of treatment and answering questions so that you get the best possible outcome and feel completely comfortable with the procedure.
What if I am not sure if botox is right for me?
That’s what I am here for! Schedule a facial consultation with me so that we can discuss your aesthetic goals. You will get personalized recommendations for treatments and skin care that would most benefit you and I can answer any questions you may have.
Can Men and Women get botox?
Absolutely! Women are sometimes more open about their self-care routines, but men can and are getting botox as well. Aesthetically, certain features are traditionally found to be more attractive on males versus females, so it is important to go to someone that understands these differences so that you get the best result for you.
