Microneedling
Activate your youth through collagen stimulation
What is Microneedling?
Microneedling is the process of creating micro-injuries in the skin to stimulate your body's natural healing process. Also known as collagen induction therapy, this popular procedure is used to obtain smoother, clearer, and younger looking skin without the need for heat or chemicals.
Why should I get microneedling?
This quick and minimally invasive procedure is perfect for diminishing fine lines as well as deeper etched in wrinkles, improving acne scars, large pores, hyperpigmentation, dullness, sagging skin, and rejuvenating your skin's tone and overall texture.
Does microneedling hurt?
Prior to your procedure, a topical anesthetic cream is applied to numb the area being treated and minimize and pain. After your procedure, once the effect of the numbing cream wears off, you may feel slight discomfort such as a mild burning or tingling sensation for 1-2 days.
Is there any downtime?
Your skin may feel tight, dry, swollen, or sensitive to sun exposure and touch for 1-3 days post procedure. Some people liken it to the sensation of a sunburn. Your skin may also peel about a week after you have this done. Try to avoid planning any prolonged outdoor activities for a few days following microneedling.
How do I care for my skin afterwards?
You may wash your face with a gentle, non-exfoliating cleanser 8 hours after microneedling. Do not apply any skin care products, sunscreen, or make up for the first 24 hours and limit excess sweating so that you allow the tiny holes in the skin to properly heal. This helps to avoid excess irritation and infection. After 24 hours you may return to your normal routine, but avoid strong products like retinol or benzoyl peroxide for 1-2 weeks.
Who should not get microneedling?
Please notify your doctor if you have any of the following conditions as you may not be a candidate for microneedling:
- Active infections
- Skin cancer or have had recent skin cancer treatments
- Autoimmune diseases or anyone on immune suppressive medications
- Pregnant or breastfeeding
- Taking anticoagulant medications
- Recent ablative dermal procedures
- Rosacea
- Diabetes
- Actinic Keratosis
- Keloid formation

Who performs my procedure?
I myself, Dr. Megan Bertke, perform all procedures, consultations, and follow up appointments.
What should I expect at my appointment?
I always get a brief medical history to ensure there are no contraindications to treatment. I will answer any questions you have and take photos before the procedure for documentation and comparison purposes that will be kept confidential unless you give your expressed consent to use them for any promotional purposes. Once initial photos are taken, a numbing cream will be applied. While waiting for the cream to work its magic, I will set up for your treatment. The treatment itself usually takes 15-30 minutes depending on the areas being treated. After your treatment I retake photos and go over post-treatment recommendations. The entire visit usually takes about 45-60 minutes. .
Are there any side effects?
Generally side effects are minimal, but they may include flaking and dryness. Milia (small white bumps) may form; these can be addressed in a follow up visit if needed. Hyperpigmentation occurs rarely and usually resolves within a month. If you are prone to cold sores you can have flare ups. Preventative medication can be prescribed as needed. Temporary redness may last up to 4 days. Freckles may temporarily lighten or disappear completely. Crusting, itching, discomfort, bruising, infection, swelling can occur. Permanent scarring is extremely rare (less than 1%).

A series of treatments may be recommended to address specific concerns and optimal results
